'Screams and bang' as blaze claims man's life

NEIGHBOURS say they heard 'screams' and a loud 'bang' as a fatal fire ripped through a house.

A man died after the blaze tore through a terrace home in Kipling Avenue, Droylsden, in the early hours of yesterday. Fire crews attended the scene at about midnight and attempted to put out the flames.

However, the man, whose age has not been revealed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman and child were also in the house but did not suffer any injuries.

Detectives have since launched an investigation into the incident.

They have not said whether the fire is being treated as arson, but described it as an 'isolated incident.

A scene remained in place on Kipling Avenue throughout Wednesday morning and into the afternoon. A lone police car remained parked at the end the 'quiet' cul-de-sac, off Waverley Crescent.
