Ten Hag has now come perilously close to the sack on two occasions, but after Tuesday's executive committee meeting, it looks like he is set for another stay of execution. The 54-year-old will be under no illusions that improvement must arrive quickly, however fixtures are about to get a little easier. The first three after the international break are testing, involving a game against Brentford at Old Trafford and then trips to Fenerbahce and West Ham.
That is followed by four successive home games against Leicester in the Carabao Cup, Chelsea in the Premier League, PAOK Salonika in the Europa League and Leicester back in the Premier League. A trip to Ipswich comes next before two more home games against Bodo/ Glimt and Everton.
This is the kind of run reminiscent of Ten Hag's first season in charge Fortunately for Ten Hag, United's when he made the most of some kind home draws in cup competitions to reestablish Old Trafford as a fortress. He could really do with recapturing that kind of form now.
