MANCHESTER fell silent to remember its brave heroes at a poignant Remembrance Sunday service.
Hundreds gathered in the rain in St Peter’s Square for the annual commemorations at the city’s Cenotaph paying tribute to those who lost their lives in both world wars as well as other conflicts.
After the playing of The Exhortation and the The Last Post, a thundering 105mm gun salute marked the beginning and end of an impeccably observed two-minute silence at 11am.
Beforehand the combined Lancashire Artillery Volunteers and Greater Manchester Police Band led a procession of service personnel and veterans, whilst the procession made up of civic dignitaries was led to the war memorial for the service by the Scots Guards Association Pipe Band.
