THE Conservatives have selected a new candidate to stand for Greater Manchester mayor, less than 24 hours after their previous candidate defected to Reform UK. Dan Barker quit the party this week after claiming he did not get enough support.
Laura Evans, who stood for the Tories at the last mayoral elections in 2021, will run for the role again in May. The former Trafford councillor, who lives in Altrincham and works in IT, won nearly 20 per cent of the votes last time, losing to Labour's Andy Burnham.
