Rae Donaldson, the manager of Vinyl Exchange record store in the Northern Quarter, passed away on his way to work on Friday.
Friends said it was his 64th birthday.
Influential figures in the city's music community have paid tribute to him following the tragic news, which was confirmed by Vinyl Exchange.
Rae worked at the shop for nearly 30 years, becoming manager and prior to that had worked at the Eastern Bloc record store.
