Amrabat, 26, is one of 10 midfielders United shortlisted as options to improve the quality of the squad depth in midfield but McTominay’s future has been complicated by injury to Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo came off in the third minute of the 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in Houston on Wednesday night and left the NRG Stadium on crutches, with his left foot in a protective boot.
United manager Erik ten Hag had accommodated Mainoo with Casemiro and Mason Mount in the starting XI, which indicated Mainoo had leapfrogged McTominay in the pecking order.
