Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty is truly a magician. He weaves a hypnotic web with his melodious voice. Performing after eons in the national capital for the 'Delhi Classical Music Festival, music aficionados had flocked from far corners, only to be met with a disappointing 'House Full' board at the Shri Ram Centre. Late to the show, I had to request the office of MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj, who was incidentally the chief guest at this show and I was snuck in surreptitiously from a service entrance. Pandit ji is supposed to be recovering from heart surgery, there was no evidence of this as we experienced the magic of his vocal range, spanning three octaves. There is no doubt that he is one of the finest classical vocalists of his generation and far surpasses any of his contemporaries.
