HEATWAVE TOLL RISES TO 143, 'ACTUAL NUMBERS LIKELY HIGHER'
Rain brings temporary relief to Delhi's heatwave

A brief rain shower in parts of Delhi on Friday provided some respite from the intense heatwave, with the maximum temperature dropping to 40.4 degrees Celsius, slightly above the seasonal average.

Despite the relief, the light rain, accompanied by gusty winds of 30-40 km/h, resulted in waterlogging in several areas, causing traffic disruptions and incidents of uprooted trees, according to civic body officials.

The city and its neighbouring NCR region experienced light to moderate rainfall in various parts during the evening.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued relief from the heatwave over the weekend, with partly cloudy skies expected on Saturday and Sunday.

By 6 pm, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi reported waterlogging in at least 13 areas across the capital.
