NEW DELHI: In a notable turn of events, the Supreme Court on Tuesday addressed news reports concerning alleged contentious remarks made by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) event, seeking an explanation from the Allahabad High Court on the matter.
This move comes amid mounting calls for Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna to take action against the high court judge for his controversial statements.
An official statement confirmed, "The Supreme Court has taken note of the newspaper reports regarding a speech by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court."
Details have been sought from the High Court, and the matter is under review.
