ADVTech eyes varsity status

Some of the group’s colleges offer degrees that are of the same level as those of public universities.

JSE-listed private education group ADVTech hopes its degree-awarding tertiary institutions will soon be able to call themselves fully-fledged universities.

CEO Geoff Whyte told Moneyweb the degrees that some ADvTech colleges offer are already at the same level as those offered by public universities.

"To be honest, we are already ahead of public universities in a number of areas, such as the minimum time to complete a degree and our graduate employment rates.

"These institutions are already universities in anything but name. But we feel it is important to have that equivalent status."

ADVTech operates schools and tertiary learning institutions under the brands Crawford Schools, Trinity House, Rosebank College and Varsity College.

Its colleges offer in-person and distance-learning qualifications in various fields, including degrees in arts, commerce, law, accounting and computer science.
