Charity Mile draw is a concern

This week had the barrier draw for the Grade 2 Allied Steelrode Onamission Charity Mile on 2 November and the race looks to be a really lovely event.

The final field looks of the highest quality, with Horse-of-The-Year Dave The King heading up the race.

Unfortunately, my ride, Back In Business, who I believe is a major contender in the race, drew quite wide and while I have serious confidence in the horse, that is never ideal.

We will, however, touch on the race next week, but we will see the final preparations of all these horses taking place, so let's hope all goes well.

Riding-wise I had a much quieter week with four winners, which was slightly less than my goal for each week, but hopefully we can play catch up this week.

Last week's column saw our best bet, Dance King and our value bet, Chestnut Bomber both win, so here's hoping it was a successful day for our followers and we will do our best to continue the trend.

Racing today takes place at Turffontein on the Standside track as well as Hollywoodbets Durbanville in another double header for punters.

This will be the first meeting back on the Standside track and I cannot wait.

The track looks in impeccable condition and the report back from the jocks who galloped on it was absolutely phenomenal and hopefully it will be a great season ahead on the track.

We will be focusing on the Turffontein card where the headliner is Race 4, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1160m where we see the return of top-class Lucky Lad.

There are a number of other classy horses taking their places in the race and it looks an intriguing contest.

There are a number of really decent horses running on the day and this is a quality card, even without any feature races.

We have a 10-race card to preview and I have a full book of rides, so I'd like to thank all the connections for their support and I believe I have several strong chances on the day.
