CLUB MED: ‘WILL TRANSFORM SA TOURISM'

Resort brings global flair
French global resorts major Club Med's new 400-plus-room property under construction in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) “will be transformational for South African tourism and the North Coast”, says Absa group interim CEO Charles Russon.

He made the comments in an interview with Moneyweb last week during a tour of the site overlooking the Indian Ocean in Tinley Manor, just north of Ballito.

Also part of the tour were execs from Club Med, developers Collins Residential, and fellow financiers African Bank and the Industrial Development Corporation.

“It is incredible the amount of work that has already been done on this major project, SA's first fully-fledged beach resort in the town of Tinley Manor. Absa is excited to be a major funder,” said Russon.

Collins Residential – a major estate developer in KZN – is behind the more than R2 billion Club Med South Africa project, situated about 10km up the coast from the group's Seaton Estate development near Sheffield Beach.
