The Delhi High Court, in the case of Rahul Bajaj Uber India Technology Private Limited (Uber) & Anr, observed and has issued notice to Uber India Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH). The petition was filed by a visually impaired advocate against discriminatory treatment meted out to him by drivers engaged with Uber India, and further, the lack of proper implementation of policies regarding the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in transportation services by the MORTH.
The petition filed states that when the petitioner booked a ride through Uber, he was subjected to discrimination and disrespectful behavior by the driver.
It was stated before the court that the driver in the case refused to get out of the auto and guide the petitioner by hand to the door of a cafe where he was travelling. The driver refused, stating that it was a waste of his time and energy.
The petition filed states that the driver agreed to begin the ride only after some persuasion and still exhibited disrespectful behavior.
