With just days to go before the announcement of the Delhi Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated projects worth Rs 4,500 crore in the city and used the opportunity to attack the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party for enriching itself in its 10-year rule in the national capital.
Inaugurating the 1,675-flat Swabhiman Apartments housing scheme for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in Ashok Vihar, Modi also took a dig at Kejriwal, who has been accused by the BJP of spending Rs 56 crore on the refurbishment of his official bungalow as chief minister. The PM said: "Modi never built a home for himself. But, in the past 10 years, 4 crore citizens have been given houses. I could have built a 'Sheeshmahal' (a reference to the expensive bungalow at Civil Lines) for myself, but my dream was to provide 'pakka' (permanent) homes to all the people in my country."
