The consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya sparked skirmishes at the Film and Training Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai.
Students at the FTII said that around 1.30pm, a group of around 20-25 people forcefully entered the premises of the institute at Law College Road, began chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' and abusing students. They tore down displays at a picture exhibition set up by the students on the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 and burnt a banner that had 'Remember Babri' and 'Death of Constitution' written on it. The mob also attacked students, including the president and general secretary of the FTII Students' Association (FTIISA).
The city police have registered a case against unknown persons for intentional hurt, insulting and trespassing, among other charges. Earlier, on Monday night, two groups of students faced off at TISS, over a pooja organised at the Institute; there was no violence.
