The BMC has started awarding Elevated Multilevel Electromechanical Parking System (Shuttle and Robo Parker System) contracts at various locations in Mumbai, including Mumbadevi, Matunga, Fort and Worli. However, RTI activist Anil Galgali has demanded an inquiry in these contracts as the civic body has suffered a huge loss of over Rs200 crore owing to these contracts.
In a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and BMC commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Galgali has sought an inquiry about controversial contracts worth Rs513.41 crore and demanded their immediate cancellation.
In the complaint, Galgali has stated that the original equipment manufacturing (OEM) partner among all the tenderers is common - M/s Sotefin Parking Pvt Ltd; also involved in key Delhi parking projects.
In Delhi, the cost of car parking per vehicle is in the range of Rs7-17 lakh, whereas the cost per parking in Mumbai is in the range of Image for representation Rs22-40 lakh.
