Cemetery at risk, modify DP: Christians urge BMC

The members of St Peter's Church, Bandra, have sought that the BMC must modify the development plan (DP), which includes a proposed road that will displace graves at the St Peter's Seaside cemetery. The call comes after the civic body withdrew a demand notice for the land issued in January 2023 owing to protests by church members.

Though the BMC has clarified that the road plans are on hold, the fact that the road still exists in the DP has left the church members anxious. They worry that the cemetery will lose land to the road anytime if the plan isn't modified. Apart from the burial ground located on Kadeshwari Mandir Road, the road could cut through a Jewish burial ground on the opposite side.
