The BMC on Wednesday informed the Bombay High Court (HC) that all decorative lights installed on trees for the G20 Summit, within its jurisdiction, have been removed.
The HC was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL), highlighting light pollution and other ill-effects of excessive use of decorative lights on trees and organisms dependent on them. The PIL sought removal of high-tension cables, wires, lighting and signposts that were draped, wrapped or otherwise placed on trees in Mumbai, Thane and Mira-Bhayandar.
BMC Advocate Urja Dhond informed the HC that the civic body had issued a circular for the same and has received official reports that all the lights have been removed.
