Five held in Surat for Thane jewellery heist

The Thane Crime Branch arrested five persons from Surat for allegedly breaking into the Waman Shankar Marathe jewellery shop in Thane on December 17 and stealing 5.6kg of gold ornaments worth Rs5.79 crore.

The burglars were captured on CCTV entering the shop with uncovered faces between 2am and 5am after breaking the shutter.

The shop owner, Ajit Waman Marathe, discovered the theft and filed a police complaint.
