KUNDARKI: BJP's history after 30 yrs

The Bharatiya Janata Party achieved a historic victory in the Kundarki Assembly by-election, with its candidate Ramveer Thakur defeating 11 challengers from the Muslim community, including Samajwadi Party's (SP) MD Rizwan.

Thakur secured the seat with a margin of over 96,000 votes, marking the BJP's first win in this Muslim-majority constituency in 30 years. SP interestingly lost a deposit here.

The BJP had last won Kundarki in the 1993 Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha election, represented by Chandra Vijay Singh. The victory now breaks the Samajwadi Party's long-standing dominance in the constituency, which is located in the Moradabad district and forms part of the Sambhal Lok Sabha constituency. Muslims comprise 60% of Kundarki's population.
