Laddu brouhaha: Amul 'beefs up' defence, lodges complaint

Police have filed a case against seven users of social media platform X for allegedly spreading misinformation that the “low-quality” ghee used in making laddus at the Tirupati temple was sourced from the ‘Amul’ brand, an official reported on Saturday.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets products under the Amul brand, has firmly denied supplying ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devastha nams (TTD), the organisation managing the temple.

According to the FIR, the users of seven different X handles propagated false information claiming ghee containing animal fat, used for preparing the laddus, belonged to the Amul brand. This, the FIR states, was intended to harm the reputation of the GCMMF.
