The Bhoiwada police in Bhiwandi have arrested the director of an NGO for allegedly branding a three-year-old girl with a hot object. The girl was living at Shobha ashram for the past two-and-half months as her parents, who survive by begging in Kalyan, were not able to take care of her, the police said.
A police officer said that the girl was staying with her grandmother in Bhiwandi as her parents are footpath dwellers. The elderly woman, however, could not properly care for the minor, following which she was sent to Shobha ashram, the official said.
