Stray dogs attack kid; residents accuse PMC

A five-year-old boy, Samarth Sachin Suryavanshi, has suffered grievous injuries after being attacked by stray dogs on Thursday, Dec 19, evening around 6pm within the premises of Chandrangan Phase V, in Ambegaon Pathar. The boy was mauled by a pack of five stray dogs, and he sustained severe head and facial injuries. The incident has again raised the residents' concern over the growing stray dog menace in Pune.

The boy is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital. The residents revealed that this is not the first such incident in the area; several dog bite incidents have been reported in the area earlier as well.

"This isn't the first incident of dog bite; these incidents have become common in our area. We are afraid to let children play outside. Authorities are not taking proper action. Even after running from pillar to post, the situation remains the same," Arvind Bhosale, a resident of Chandrangan, told The Free Press Journal (FPJ).
