The museum said the majority of the missing items, including gold rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces, were mostly from Greece and Rome. It has provided images it says are similar to the missing items in the hope that members of the public will recognise them. Some of the jewellery is believed to date back to the Bronze age.
The museum disclosed last month that an estimated 2,000 artefacts were found to have been taken from the institution over a "significant" period of time. An unnamed member of staff was sacked and the museum is taking legal action. The museum's director, Hartwig Fischer, resigned from his position along with his deputy, Jonathan Williams.
