Pilgrims’ head coach Wayne Rooney stated after the 4-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday that he was waiting to find out the results of a scan on Houghton. The 28-yearold probably would have played against the Owls and captained the team had he been deemed fit.
Instead, he sat out the game at Hillsborough and will not feature in the Carabao Cup first round tie with Cheltenham Town at Home Park tonight, but could return for the visit of Hull City in the Championship on Saturday.
When asked about Houghton and his scan, Rooney said: “It wasn’t too serious. He joined in the warm-up this morning, he will do a part of the session on Thursday and if he gets through that he could potentially be available for Saturday.
“It was just something on his knee. I think with your knee you have to be a bit cautious and it was affecting him a little bit. It’s not too bad.”
