Care home closes down due to cost pressures

The Abbeyfield Living Society has confirmed that Abbeyfield House, in Hartley, has shut and will be sold.

The last remaining residents had been found somewhere else to live, but two other doomed Abbeyfield homes, in Plymstock and Ivybridge, are still open while new homes are found for residents.

The charity decided to close the three old people's homes because it could not afford a £1.8 million bill to renovate them. The Abbeyfield Living Society also cited hikes in inflation and energy bills as reasons why the homes in Hartley, Plymstock and Ivybridge were no longer viable.
