PLYMOUTH City Council leader Tudor Evans has backed calls for the decentralisation of governance away from Westminster, with power handed over to local communities instead.
Cllr Evans has put his weight behind the call made by the Effective Governance Forum (EGF), who have produced a report making a case for a shift of power from Whitehall.
Their push is backed by a survey that has highlighted the apathy that centralisation has produced in local democract, with six out of 10 people polled said they would be more likely to vote in their council elections if authorities had greater decision-making powers.
