A DECISION is expected to be made soon on whether Plymouth City Council (PCC) will look to fine motorists for stopping in box junctions, driving in bus lanes or going the wrong way in a one-way street.
PCC has said it intends to apply to the Government for new powers to enforce “moving traffic offences” across the city – which could lead to drivers being fined up to £70 for each offence.
The authority wants to carry out a pilot scheme in Marlborough Street, Devonport, where it said vehicles regularly break traffic rules in the pedestrianised, oneway street, putting pedestrians at risk. If rules were enforced, vehicles using Marlborough Street when not permitted to do so would face a penalty charge of £70, discounted to £35 if paid within 14 days.
