PLYMOUTH’S Tory chief has accused the council of stalling on a proposal to scrap yearly elections.
Plymouth City Council has been looking at whether to stop having elections in three out of every four years and revert to having one election every four years, which would save £1.4 million a decade.
The issue has been on the table since early 2022, when the authority was Tory-controlled, and now Andy Lugger, leader of the opposition Conservative group, has asked why a public consultation on the proposal has yet to happ en. He told The Herald: “They are trying to kick it into the long grass.”
