PLYMOUTH has withdrawn from the Government's proposed devolution deal for Devon with the city's council leader, Tudor Evans, branding it "unreasonable and unrealistic" even though it promised more cash for the city.
The Labour-run council said the deal would have left Plymouth with less power and less control over transport and said there was no commitment to the expected increase in Government investment.
Cllr Evans said the proposal, which could have seen Plymouth merged into a Devon "super council", would have been "a backward step" for the city.
For more than two years, Plymouth has been working closely with other local authorities across Devon on the deal, which promised to see more money and powers transferred to a Devon, Plymouth and Torbay combined authority.
