UGLY road surfacing in the city centre will not be there forever, Plymouth City Council has reassured shoppers.
The authority said there was "understandable" confusion about the state of Old Town Street and New George Street as the roads undergo a very slow £7 million upgrade, and stressed the current pitiful state of the area is not how it will end up looking.
The council said it has "amazing plans" and that boarded up areas will be open again by the summer. Businesses have already been told to expect the "intensity of the work" to increase "considerably", after it was hit by lengthy delays.
Now the council is moving to cora few misconceptions and assure the public something is happening. It said: "Understandably, there's some confusion about what is happening - or not - in Old Town Street and New George Street, so we thought we'd give an update.
"We know some people believe that the bits of temporary Tarmac are the finished job. We would just like to reassure you this is not the case. We have some amazing plans."
