Ongoing issues with Warwickshire Police’s 101 service came to a head during North Warwickshire Borough Council’s safer communities subcommittee.
Councillor Owen Phillips (Lab, Hurley and Wood End) declared himself unable to keep battling against perceptions “no one is going to turn up and no one cares”.
“It is mental to tell them it’s going to get better,” he said.
“The perception problem is so bad even if things got better tomorrow, it would take so long to penetrate through and that has increased apathy in reporting.
“People just cannot be bothered to pick up the phone and I don’t even tell them to anymore. It is best to but personally, I feel a muppet telling them to.”
