MEDICAL chiefs at Derriford Hospital are warning people to only turn up if they have a “life-threatening emergency” during a nurses’ strike which covers the bank holiday. Royal College of Nursing (RCN) members working at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust will be taking strike action on Sunday, April 30, and Monday, May 2, and will have a picket line outside the hospital as a bitter pay dispute continues.
The strike will begin at 8pm, the start of the night shift, on Sunday and include the early May bank holiday on Monday. The strike action applies to all shift patterns, including night shifts.
But the strike was supposed to go on for another 24 hours, but has been cut short by a Government legal challenge. A High Court judge ruled the second day of the planned industrial action was not covered by the mandate as balloting closed at midday on November 2, 2022.
