A ROYAL Marine veteran who has devoted his life to helping youngsters enjoy boxing has received the BEM.
George Stables, 81, has received the award for services to amateur boxing in Devon after first becoming involved in the sport in Plymouth and the County of Devon in 1969.
George left the Royal Marines after 10 years' service and began coaching children and young adults in the Plymouth area at various clubs before joining Devonport Amateur Boxing Club as a coach in 1980.
He quickly became head coach and continued in this position until 2012.
