Gladiators' search continues for a top quality number one

The dual nationality rider was injured competing in his last race when back in his native Argentina earlier this month suffering fractures to his arm and leg. The 35-year-old has since successfully undergone surgery and is due to return to Europe soon with the aim of competing in the first round of the Italian championship, which begins in April.

The Gladiators are expecting him to miss the first six meetings of the season with a return pencilled in for the trip to Glasgow on May 10. But May is keen to have a quality number one to eradicate the prospect of being weakened until that trip to Scotland.

"Nico is hoping to be back in action in mid-April," May said. "He is still in Argentina, but he is flying back to Italy soon, where he will continue his rehab and he wants to be ready for the Italian championships. Then he wants to be back for Plymouth.

"He's feeling good and has movement in his hand and leg, so things are looking good. We just have to get these next few months out of the way.
