Goldsmith stars in Octagan's superb win

Fred Goldsmith hit 11 tons, including a 180, in Octagan's hammering of Colebrook

FRED Goldsmith’s 11 ton-plus haul in Octagon’s 10-1 win over Colebrook included a 180 and the top checkout of the week across all Plymouth City Super League fixtures; a 124 three-dart combination.

Despite that performance, Goldsmith wasn’t the top scorer for the leaders as John Mann produced 12 tons overall for the team.

The talismanic figure also scored a 180 in a 3-0 singles win that was won with a trio of 16 dart legs; producing a single dart average of 31.31.

That was the only individual average that bettered Goldsmith’s (28.36) 3-0 win, which was helped along by legs of 18, 17 and 18 darts.

Other moments of magic in the singles phase came in the form of a 15-darter for Alfie Ford in a 3-2 defeat and a leg in 17 for Neil White in his 3-0 triumph.

Lee Hellings was also prominent for the champions-elect as he nailed 11 ton-plusses and teamed with Goldsmith and White (27.05) to produce a 1001 trebles leg in just 37.

That leg, however, was blown away by a magnificent 31-dart 1001 doubles from Mann and team-mate Matthews, which topped all other averages on the night; a 32.29 per dart display.

Antony Hayman’s 14-ton haul led King Billy to a 9-2 win over Steampacket; a victory that also saw Mark Yeoman throw his team’s only maximum of the match.

Hayman’s singles saw him checkout 104 in a single visit in a 3-1 win that was won with two 18 darters and a leg in 15.

Hayman’s defeated opponent, Neal Hotchkiss, had earlier provided the highest checkout of the match; a 120 finish that bettered Hayman’s effort in a doubles win for Hotchkiss and team-mate George Beckett.
