IN the mixed, there was a top of the table clash when Alison Goodwin and Alex Cox played last year’s winners Fiona Crutchley and Nick Haley.

Goodwin and Cox enjoy super win over defending champions

It did not disappoint in regards to tension, drama and fine exchanges from the baseline and net.

There were a few breaks of serve in the first set, but Alex and Alison got into their rhythm soon after and held out for a straight sets win 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.

Toni Lloyd and Karol Fisher got the better of Pam Ellis and Ming Dai in a hard fought match with many long rallies. All four players played some great tennis but Toni and Karol won 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Victoria Roberts and Mark Skerton beat Alex and Alex Stephenson 6-2, 6-0, 6-5 with some great rallies between Vicky and Alexander from the baseline.

Roanna George and Lawrence Nortier made light work of beating Janet Butler and Dudley Tolkien 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 and when Nicky Slight and Dave Bate took on Debbie Wilson and James Spurgeon, Dave and Nicky were very consistent with some good serving and volleying from both of them. In opposition James and Debbie played some really great tennis with Jame’s elegant placement of the ball, but Nicky and Dave prevailed winning 6-2, 6-4, 6-3.

Jess Randell and James Driscoll overcame a first set loss to Alison Goodwin and Alex Cox before fighting back to win 2-6, 6-5, 6-5.

It was a close game with lots of deuces when Sandra Fox and Chiara Ho played Claire Duffin and Helen Lucas in Ladies A with Sandra and Chiara winning 6-4, 6-5, 6-2.
