LIFESAVING charity work, dedication to animal welfare and services to girlguiding have seen people from Ivybridge and Looe in Cornwall named in this year’s New Year’s Honours list.
Among the list of those honoured is the founder and chief executive of the Animals Interfaith Alliance and RSPCA campaigner Barbara Gardner, from Ivybridge, who has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Also named as an MBE is Barbara Sharples, from Looe, who is vice president of Cornwall Air Ambulance and has helped to raise millions of pounds towards the charity’s life-saving work.
Lifesaving work has also seen Dave Haines become a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) for his work as Lifeboat Operations Manager at Looe Lifeboat Station.
Rosemary Howell, from Ivybridge, is also a British Empire Medallist for her services to girlguiding and the community in Devon.
Barbara Gardner, from Ivybridge, is the founder and Chief Executive of the Animal Interfaith Alliance and is also a member of the board.
She has been the treasurer and a trustee of the RSPCA and was awarded their Queen Victoria Silver Medal for long and meritorious ser-vice for animal welfare.
