Lowdown on Lowe ahead of return to Plymouth

RYAN Lowe returns to Home Park tomorrow for the first time since leaving Plymouth Argyle to take charge of Preston North End in December 2021.

Lowe led Preston to a 13th-place finish in the Championship 2021/22, 12th last term and they are currently in 10th position, still with a chance of making the playoffs. For them to beat off strong competition for a top-six spot North End will need to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 home defeat by Steven Schumacher's Stoke City last Saturday when they take on Ian Foster's Argyle.

George Hodgson, the PNE reporter at the Lancashire Post, has given his expert insight into the club to Herald Sport ahead of their visit to the Theatre of Greens.

How would you judge the job done by Ryan Lowe at Preston North End since he joined from Argyle?

Well he has certainly had his ups and downs, to the point Lowe's job felt extremely vulnerable earlier this season. But, sitting here today, you would have to say he's done a decent job overall.

His North End team have tended to stay in the top half of the Championship and there have been some good days during his tenure. There have also been some poor days, as well as two particularly poor runs of form - which led to real frustration around the club.

His first six months were very positive, the following season was a little bit dull, though steady - and this campaign has been a mixed bag.
