THE Navy's specialists in amphibious operations, 47 Commando Raiding Group Royal Marines, were tasked with a special delivery in Plymouth Sound recently when they put their expertise to use to move several historic cannons - each weighing two tonnes - from Devonport Naval Base to Mount Edgcumbe Country Park.
The 175-year-old guns needed to be transported across the water to Cornwall for a planned new display on historic defences which once protected the key harbour.
The guns, dating back to the late 1840s even before the Crimean War and the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace - are part of the naval base's heritage collection.
