Matthews on top form in victory for Kings Arms

REG Matthews fired the top finish of 164 in Kings Arms' first outing of the Steve Chapman 501 League as his team came away with a 7-4 win.

Not content with just the big finish, Matthews also put the game's only maximum onto the scoreboard, whilst there was good legs of 16 and 18 darts for Tony Teal and Dave Johns respectively.

Jayden Dodd's 12-ton haul led Octagon to a first victory of the season in a 6-5 game week one triumph over King Billy.

Dodd (25.91) was also the most prominent individual player for his team with a 3-0 win that contained a leg in 17.

Antony Hayman's 11-ton riposte was accented by three of the six maximums in the match, as well as an out shot of 120.

That beat a 108 from Robbie Bisgrove in a 3-1 defeat against Hayman that saw the former Devon and Cornwall man plough in the game's best leg; a 15-darter.

Hayman's team-mates, Zak Burden and Andrew Cook, added 180s number five and six with Dave Pethick firing his team's only three treble visit.

Cook's maximum was one of 11 three-figure visits to the board personally in a match that was won on the very last leg as Alfie Ford bagged the 6-5 win with a 3-2 success.

Reigning champions Fawn B opened up the defence of their title with a convincing 11-0 win over Victory Hammers.

Lee Agar and John Mann shared the honour of heaviest scorer for the title favourites as they both put up 12 scores of a ton or more.

Agar's total was rounded off by a 132 three-dart combination out shot that claimed the highest of the match, whilst Andy Bates reached ten tons personally.

Agar's 3-1 win was clinched with the help of a 17-darter whilst Mann checked legs in 18 and 14 darts during a 3-0 triumph.

Quinton Taylor top scored with 11 tons in an 8-3 opening day win for Victory A over newly-formed Cherry Tree.
