A PLYMOUTH mum who was homeless when she fell pregnant at 16 has thanked an incredible service for supporting her through a difficult time in her life – and says the help she received has led to her achieving amazing things.
Vicki was only a teenager when Livewell Southwest family nurse Fay Cook started supporting her through her pregnancy. The Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) is an intensive support programme for girls and women in Plymouth up to age 19 who are pregnant and are sometimes facing a range of difficult circumstances, such as homelessness, social isolation, mental health issues or unhealthy relationships.
Vicki says Fay helped her ‘with everything’ – including accompanying her to the foodbank and helping her get back into college. Now she has a Bachelors and a Masters degree in literature and is currently studying for her PhD.
