ARGYLE WILL STICK TO THEIR PRINCIPLES DESPITE BACK-TO-BACK DEFEATS, VOWS STEVEN SCHUMACHER

PLYMOUTH Argyle will not deviate away from their attack-minded style of play despite the bitter disappointment of back-to-back 2-1 Championship defeats after conceding late goals.

Steven Schumacher has said he has not recruited his talented young Pilgrims’ squad ‘to be defensive and solid’ and they would look to continue to do it their way.

It has been a matter fine margins for Argyle in their last two games, first against Southampton at Home Park and then Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on Saturday, when Jay Stansfield scored for the Blues with almost the last kick. 

Schumacher said: “That’s what we have got to keep working on the training ground for, and we keep stressing to the lads we are going to create chances the way we play.

“We are definitely going to create chances. We will make mistakes and we will give up opportunities as well because the way we like to pass the ball out from the back, but that’s our best way to win games.

“If we keep believing in that then we will be fine, but I don’t want to keep coming in saying ‘Lads, well done, you played really well, I’m really proud of you but you have got nothing to show for your efforts’. The effort and the quality they are showing deserves more than the four points we have got.”
