Players are given time to mull over contract offers

STEVEN Schumacher is prepared to wait for decisions from five of his title-winning Plymouth Argyle squad over new deals they have been offered but not for too long.

Players are given time to mull over contract offers

Ryan Hardie and Niall Ennis, Argyle’s top two scorers this season with 17 and 14 goals respectively, are among them, as well as defensive duo Dan Scarr and James Wilson and midfielder Jordan Houghton.

Their current contracts with the League One champions all end later this summer and now have to consider the future direction of their careers.

Schumacher expects Hardie and Ennis to have ‘other options’ given their goal-scoring records this season but hopes they will extend their stays at Home Park.

As it stands the only striker that Argyle have under contract for next season is 21-year-old New Zealand international Ben Waine, who has made just two starts, as well as nine substitute appearances, since joining from Wellington Phoenix at the start of January.

Schumacher said: “First of all, I feel all five played a huge part in the success of this season. Willo was virtually ever present, never misses a day’s training.

“Same with Jordan Houghton, 49 games I think he played total, and a brilliant person to have in the dressing room. He’s really switched on, got a good football brain, so deserved it.
