In August last year, Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, highlighted concerns over sewage pouring into the Sound which was traced back to historic buildings bordering Royal William Yard.
The residents of the properties were unaware their effluence was not a part of the main sewer system and was instead directly linked to water next to the designated bathing site. This came after Surfers Against Sewage who have long complained about raw sewage discharges issued raw sewage warnings for Plymouth beaches, citing both Plymouth Hoe and Firestone Bay.
