The legendary performer kicked off his run of UK summer shows on Saturday at Home Park stadium, where he has played twice before, and wowed the crowd. Despite putting on a great show, the audience was left shocked and disappointed when he finished his second to last song of the encore at around 10.30pm and the stage was turned to darkness. To add to fans' fury, his last song was We Are Sailing, which Fans at the gig has an even more special meaning in the naval city.
It is unclear as to why the concert ending abruptly as it did, as Home Park has permission for concerts to run until 11pm, and a spokesperson for Plymouth City Council said: "Despite rumours and reports, Plymouth City Council and the venue did not ask Rod Stewart to finish early last night."
Lucinda Maxwell said: "After attending the Rod Stewart concert yesterday evening, he finished his second to last song, the finale being We Are Sailing, to be told it was 10.30pm and he couldn't continue. With this Rod, stormed off the stage and the concert was left without light. Hundreds of fans like myself were left in shock and waited for an iconic moment dedicated to the Navy!"
