DARTMOOR is set to become a major tourist destination for ‘staycationers’ in 2023 – with a little help from TikTok.
The national park, on Plymouth’s doorstep, is among the UK’s most viewed holiday areas on the Chinese-owned video platform, research reveals.
The fifth annual Staycation Index, from Cheshire-based Sykes Holiday Cottages, reveals #Devon received more than 674 million views on TikTok, with #Dartmoor among the most popular destinations. Clovelly, in north Devon, was also highly viewed, but Cornwall beat its next-door neighbour when it came to TikTok viewings.
The research showed #Cornwall received more than 1.2 billion views on TikTok, with popular spots #Newquay and #Porthcurno receiving 54.8 million and 4.3 million views, respectively. Other attractive spots included #Stives and #CarbisBay, with #BudeSeaPool and #LustyGlazeBeach highlighted as hidden gems, with more than 1.4 million and 354,000 views, respectively.
The Sykes Staycation Index says all this is important because 27% of holiday makers are heavily influenced by social media channels – such as TikTok and Instagram – when picking a location for their holiday.
