Alex Carter, who attended school in Ivybridge but now lives in Cornwall, was admitted to an intensive care unit in the Central American country in early January after suffering several strokes caused by arterial blood clots in his brain.
His family and his partner, Lucy, struggled to find a way to bring him back to the UK.
They set up an online GoFundMe page to help the 38-year-old and appealed to the yachting community, friends, and family for help, raising over £55,000 - more than enough to get Alex home.
