Swimmer won't face sentencing until 2025

A FORMER Olympic swimmer and student police officer convicted of raping two teenagers and sexually touching one of the girls when she was under the age of 16 will remain at large until next year after prosecutors decided not to retry him on five further counts of rape.

Last week The Herald reported on the Crown Prosecution Service’s (CPS) decision not to retry 34-year-old Antony James on five counts of rape and one count of sexual activity with a child.

James, from Crownhill, was convicted by a jury at Plymouth Crown Court of eight charges, including three counts of rape, three of sexual activity with a child, and two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.
