THE much-beleaguered Palace Theatre has been put up for sale. The prominent landmark is being touted as a ‘prominent auditorium in the heart of Plymouth town centre’.
An advert which The Herald has been informed about has been shared with prospective buyers, and suggests that the Grade II* listed Victorian building is ‘in need of considerable renovation’, adding that the ‘hotel next door is also potentially available, via separate negotiations’.
This would suggest that the Great Western Hotel, which is attached to the Palace Theatre, is not part of any sale, but potentially could be.
No sale price has been offered, merely that there is a POA – ‘Price on application’.
Commenting on the prospective sale, Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth Sutton and Devonport, said: “The Palace Theatre is one of Plymouth’s most iconic historic buildings. It exudes history and heritage yet under its current owner it has fallen into disrepair.
“This is a significant opportunity to rescue this important building and save it for the city. We now need a city-wide effort to find a sensible owner to stabilise the building, make it watertight again, and then give it a proper future.
